Frequently Asked Questions
The questions foreigners — and Chinese clients in particular — ask us most often about visas, banking, business, residence permits and life in Armenia.
Before you ask
The answers below reflect the general rules as of late 2026. Individual cases vary with citizenship, documents and current regulations, so treat this page as orientation rather than legal advice. If your question is not covered, write to us on WeChat, WhatsApp, Telegram or email — the first consultation is free and always answered by a person, not a bot.
Frequently asked questions
Do Chinese citizens need a visa for Armenia?
No. Under the mutual visa-free agreement in force since 2020, Chinese citizens may stay in Armenia up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. For longer stays, a residence permit is required — we handle those applications too.
Do I need a residence permit to open a bank account?
No. Armenian banks serve non-residents. For a personal account you need a valid passport, an Armenian Public Services Number (PSN) and a clean KYC dossier. A business account requires a registered Armenian company, which we can set up in a few days.
How long does company registration take?
Registration at the State Register Agency typically completes in a few business days once documents are ready. The overall timeline depends on your paperwork and any notarization or legalization needed — we confirm a realistic schedule during the free consultation.
Can everything be done remotely, without visiting Armenia?
In many cases yes, via a notarized power of attorney (apostilled or consular-legalized if signed abroad) — for company registration and, depending on the bank, account opening. Availability varies by bank, authority and citizenship; we confirm the route before you commit.
What is a PSN and why do I need it?
The Public Services Number is the Armenian personal ID number used for banking, taxes and most official procedures. We obtain it for clients, typically within a few working days.
What is the difference between TRP and PRP?
A Temporary Residence Permit is issued for up to one year and renewable, with grounds including work, business, study or family ties. A Permanent Residence Permit is renewed every 10 years, with grounds such as significant business or investment activity, close family of citizens or Armenian origin. Which fits you depends on your situation — we assess it at consultation.
When do I become an Armenian tax resident?
Generally, after spending 183 or more days in Armenia within any consecutive 12-month period; tax residents report worldwide income. Armenia has double tax treaties with 40+ countries, including China and Russia, to prevent double taxation. Note that a residence permit does not automatically make you a tax resident.
Can foreigners buy property in Armenia?
Yes. Foreigners freely own apartments and commercial property; agricultural land can only be held through an Armenian legal entity. A property purchase above a certain minimum value can support a residence permit application. We provide search, legal due diligence and transaction support.
Do you provide Chinese-language support?
Yes. Our Chinese desk works in native Mandarin and is WeChat-first. Explanations and documents are prepared in Chinese, English and Armenian as needed, so nothing is lost in translation.
Where can I stay when I arrive?
At our own Grand Freedom hotels: Nacho Hotel in Yerevan, Aurora Resort in Tsaghkadzor, Artanish Beach Resort on Lake Sevan and Cone Hotel in Dilijan — book direct on grand-freedom.com. Relocation clients can combine the stay with settling-in support from the same team.
How can I pay for your services?
Payment options are confirmed during the consultation and include bank transfer, with a clear invoice listing each service and fee. For Chinese clients we discuss convenient routes — contact us to confirm the current options for your case.
