Permanent Residence in Armenia
We help foreigners obtain an Armenian Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) on business, investment, family or Armenian-origin grounds — eligibility assessment, dossier preparation and OVIR filing handled end to end.
Who qualifies for permanent residence
The Permanent Residence Permit is the long-term status in Armenia: it is renewed every 10 years and removes the need to re-apply annually. Grounds include significant business or investment activity in Armenia, being a close family member of an Armenian citizen, Armenian origin (repatriates), and special contribution to the country.
- Business/investment ground — substantial and demonstrable activity, such as an operating company or qualifying property investment
- Family ground — close relatives of Armenian citizens
- Armenian origin — a simplified route for diaspora Armenians
- Special contribution — exceptional cases defined by the state
From TRP to PRP: planning the transition
Many applicants first hold a Temporary Residence Permit and build documented legal residence, business history and tax records before applying for PRP. What counts as "significant" business or investment activity is assessed case by case and the thresholds are subject to change; our team evaluates your profile and confirms the viable route before you commit.
Property and the investment route
Purchasing real estate in Armenia can support a residence application on investment grounds — a minimum property value applies and the rules are periodically updated. Foreigners freely own apartments and commercial property (agricultural land only through a legal entity). We coordinate the purchase, due diligence and the residence filing as one track.
Documents and the OVIR process
Applications are filed at the Passport & Visa Department of the Police (OVIR) in Yerevan before your current status expires. The core package mirrors TRP filings, plus strong evidence of the qualifying ground. State fees and processing timelines vary; we confirm current figures for your case at consultation.
- Passport with notarized Armenian translation
- Application form, photos and fee receipt
- Ground evidence: company and financial records, investment documents, kinship or origin certificates
- Clean, continuous legal-status history in Armenia
What PRP gives you — and what it does not
PRP holders live in Armenia indefinitely with a card renewed every 10 years, work without separate permits and travel freely in and out. It is not citizenship: PRP does not grant an Armenian passport or voting rights, and holding it does not automatically make you a tax resident — that still depends on the 183-day rule. For many clients PRP is the comfortable middle step, with citizenship as an option later.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a Permanent Residence Permit valid?
The PRP is renewed every 10 years — unlike the annual Temporary Residence Permit. Renewal is administrative as long as the status remains valid.
Can I get permanent residence by buying property?
Property purchase can support an investment-ground application, subject to a minimum value that is periodically updated. We confirm the current threshold and whether your planned purchase qualifies.
Do I need a TRP before applying for PRP?
Not always — some grounds (family, Armenian origin, significant investment) can be pursued directly, while others are stronger after documented temporary residence. We assess your case individually.
Does PRP make me a tax resident of Armenia?
No. Tax residency is determined mainly by spending 183+ days in Armenia in a consecutive 12-month period, regardless of permit type. We offer separate tax-residency planning.
